What Are Your Health Goals?

The Gajer Practice Blogs

August 15, 2024

Dear readers,

It has been said that health is our greatest wealth, and I wholeheartedly agree. In today’s fast-paced world, we often set goals for many facets of our lives: career goals, relationship goals, family goals, and financial goals. We hope that good health will always be with us, but it often takes a health setback to make us think about our real health goals.

Today, I want to challenge you to be intentional about your health goals. If you have had a visit with me, we may have discussed your top three health goals. This is a question I love to ask because the answers are so varied. While my practice sees many patients for weight loss, true health goals often go far beyond shedding pounds. Weight loss is often a step towards achieving deeper goals. Do you want to have more energy? Feel confident and comfortable? Have a sense of well-being? Sleep better? Be a great example for your kids?

Our health goals are deeply personal and can be excellent motivators for our behavior and lifestyle. Take out a notebook and answer the following questions to help you get clearer on your health goals:

1. What part of my current life brings me the most happiness? What does my body need to be able to do more of this?

2. When do I feel most calm, confident, and connected? How could my health improve to have more of these moments?

3. What are my greatest hopes for the future? What activities would I like to be doing in 10 years? What activities do I need to invest in now to make that possible?

By answering these questions, you should be able to write out your top three health goals. These don’t have to be the same as other people’s or even what others would want for you. This is an investment in your current and future happiness.

Medicine has come a long way in helping people live longer. In the last several decades, we have seen an upgrade in medicine where we strive to help people not only live longer but also better. This is what lights me up in medicine and what I love about working with my patients.

Do you want help defining your health goals and creating a roadmap to get you there? Schedule a visit with me, and we can partner to achieve the best health of your life.

Your Skin Has a Biological Age Too. Here’s How We Invest in It Early

We spend a lot of time in this practice talking about biological age. We measure it, we track it, we work to move it. We optimize hormones, metabolism, muscle, and the quiet inflammatory background that ages a body from the inside.

I’m 44 and My Biological Age Is 32. Here’s the Bloodwork Behind It.

My first reaction was not celebration but curiosity. As a physician, I do not trust a good number any more than I trust a bad one until I understand where it came from and what it actually measures.

Low-Dose Ketamine Lozenges: A New Frontier in Mental Health Treatment

For most of the modern era, we believed depression was slow to treat by nature. You started a medication, you waited four to six weeks, and you hoped. We told patients this so many times it began to feel like a law of physics: the brain heals slowly, if it heals at all.
