Hormone Quiz : Part 2

The Gajer Practice Blogs

December 21, 2023

Hello Everyone,

Today, let’s once again dive into the world of hormones – those essential chemical messengers that keep our bodies running smoothly. These tiny powerhouses play a big role in our energy, well-being, strength, and how long we live. Sadly, our modern lifestyle often messes with these hormone systems.

In a world where we’re surrounded by processed foods, always on the go, and encouraged to push ourselves to the limit for productivity, our delicate hormone balance takes a hit.

As we jump into week 2 of quizzes addressing different hormone systems in the body, I’m here to share some useful insights. Every week, you can expect practical tips to help balance your hormones and guide you toward better health. These quizzes are inspired by the work of Dr. Sara Gottfried, part of the “Hormone Cure” book’s Gottfried Protocol.

Today’s quiz is all about low cortisol levels. If these questions don’t quite match your experiences, no worries – next week will have a set that might fit better. Answer the questions as best you can and tally up the “yes” responses at the end.

In the last 6 months, have you felt:

  • Super tired or burnt out?
  • Low on energy, especially between 2 pm-5 pm?
  • Stuck in a negative mindset?
  • Suddenly started crying for no reason?
  • Found it hard to solve problems?
  • Stressed all the time or struggling to cope with stress?
  • Trouble sleeping, especially between 1 am-4 am?
  • Low blood pressure or dizzy when standing up?
  • Trouble fighting off infections or catching every cold?
  • Dealing with symptoms like irritable bowel syndrome, or nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or alternating diarrhea with constipation?
  • Noticing easy bruising?

If you said yes to at least 5 questions, you are likely dealing with low cortisol. If 3 or more questions hit home, it’s worth checking your cortisol levels. Low cortisol often comes from stress wearing out your adrenal glands. This can lead to burnout, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and bone loss.

Healing from adrenal fatigue takes time and effort, but it often brings more energy and satisfaction with life. To get started:

  • Exercise regularly – it helps, even if you’re tired.
  • Try stress-relieving activities like meditation, yoga, or tai chi.
  • Consider Vitamin C (1000mg per day) and a B complex.
  • Explore herbal therapies like licorice and grapefruit juice.

Sometimes, you might need more supplements, a diet that supports your adrenals, or even bioidentical cortisol or other forms of hormone replacement therapy to restore balance.

Best,

6 Signs That Perimenopause Is Here

Dear readers, Most women I see in clinic for perimenopause have been told, somewhere along the way, that what they are feeling is "just stress," "just aging," or "just life." Many have been told they are "too young".

The Science of Aging: What We Know and What We Can Do About It

Nobody thinks about their muscle until it's gone. That's the honest truth. Most of my patients come to me focused on fat — how to lose it, where it's coming from, why it won't budge. And fat matters, absolutely. But underneath that conversation is one I think is even more important, especially as we age.
