OPTIONAL MEDICATION

GLP-1 agonist injections

In the vast landscape of medical advancements, certain breakthroughs redefine the way we approach healthcare. GLP-1 agonist, a novel medication within the class of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), has emerged as a remarkable drug of the century. Book a free consultation to find out if this medication is right for you!

GLP-1 agonist is a breakthrough medication that plays a pivotal role in the field of weight management and health improvement. It belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by mimicking the effects of the hormone GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) in the body. Originally developed for managing type 2 diabetes, GLP-1 agonist has garnered significant attention for its remarkable effectiveness in aiding weight loss. When used in weight loss treatment, GLP-1 agonist helps control appetite, regulates blood sugar levels, and promotes a feeling of fullness. This medication is often used as part of a comprehensive program that involves dietary and lifestyle modifications, all under the supervision of medical professionals. Its ability to address both weight management and potential metabolic benefits has made GLP-1 agonist an exciting option for individuals striving to achieve their weight loss and health goals.

GLP-1 agonist is generally well-tolerated, but like any medication, it can cause side effects in some individuals. Here are some possible side effects of GLP-1 agonist:

  • Nausea – Nausea is a common side effect when starting GLP-1 agonist, but it often improves as the body adapts to the medication.
  • Vomiting – Some individuals might experience vomiting, particularly in the initial stages of treatment. Adequate hydration and smaller meals can help manage this symptom.
  • Abdominal Discomfort – Mild abdominal discomfort or pain can occur, usually transient in nature.
  • Hypoglycemia – While GLP-1 agonist is not usually associated with low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), combining it with certain diabetes medications could increase this risk, especially if the dosage of other medications isn’t adjusted appropriately.
  • Pancreatitis – Although rare, GLP-1 agonist has been linked to inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Seek medical attention if you experience persistent abdominal pain, which could be a sign of this serious condition.
  • Thyroid Tumors – In animal studies, GLP-1 agonist has been associated with thyroid tumors. While the relevance to humans is still being studied, individuals with a history of thyroid cancer or certain thyroid conditions should consult their doctor before using GLP-1 agonist.
  • Injection Site Reactions – Minor skin reactions can occur at the injection site, such as redness or itching. Rotating injection sites and proper technique can help minimize these effects.

The timeline for GLP-1 agonist to show noticeable effects on weight loss can vary among individuals. Generally, significant weight loss can be observed within a few weeks to a couple of months of starting GLP-1 agonist treatment. However, it’s important to remember that individual responses to the medication may differ due to factors such as metabolism, adherence to the treatment plan, and lifestyle choices. Consistent use of GLP-1 agonist in combination with a balanced diet and regular physical activity is crucial to achieving optimal results. Consulting with healthcare professionals will provide personalized guidance on how long it might take for GLP-1 agonist to work effectively for each person’s weight loss journey.

GLP-1 agonist stands out among other weight loss treatments due to its unique mechanism of action and compelling results. Unlike many other options, GLP-1 agonist is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that not only addresses appetite control but also offers potential metabolic benefits. Clinical trials have demonstrated significant weight loss outcomes with GLP-1 agonist, often surpassing those achieved with other weight loss interventions. While other treatments may focus solely on reducing caloric intake or increasing physical activity, GLP-1 agonist combines these effects with its ability to regulate blood sugar levels and enhance the feeling of fullness.

GLP-1 agonist is generally recommended for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, indicating obesity, or for adults with a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related medical condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. It is typically prescribed for individuals who have not achieved sufficient weight loss through diet and exercise alone and are committed to making long-term lifestyle changes. However, individual eligibility can vary, and it’s important to consult a healthcare provider to determine if GLP-1 agonist is a suitable option based on your medical history, current health status, and weight loss goals.

OPTIONAL MEDICATION

GLP-1 and GIP agonist injections

GLP-1 and GIP agonist is another GLP-1 receptor agonist, combing the benefits of dual GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 receptor agonism. This novel approach has shown even more promising results in clinical trials, making it the powerful contender in the field of weight loss medications.

OPTIONAL MEDICATION

Phentermine

Phentermine is a prescription medication that is used as an appetite suppressant. It belongs to a class of drugs known as sympathomimetic amines, which work by stimulating the release of certain chemicals in the brain that help control appetite. Phentermine is primarily prescribed for the short-term management of obesity in conjunction with diet and exercise.

Contact us today to find out if this will work for you.

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant structurally similar to amphetamines and is indicated only as a short-term treatment for exogenous obesity. Phentermine is approved for usage by the U.S. FDA. About 10 years ago, Phentermine was used in combination with another appetite suppressant, fenfluramine. This combination was nicknamed “Fen-Phen”, and became a popular treatment for obesity. Millions of people who were taking “Fen-Phen” for weight loss, however, it was noted that there was an increased frequency of heart valve dysfunction in people who used this combination treatment. Studies demonstrated that fenfluramine was the cause of the heart valve dysfunction and soon thereafter, the FDA removed fenfluramine from the market. However, phentermine alone is very safe and has been on the market since 1959.

Potential side effects of phentermine may cause: fast, pounding or irregular heartbeats, chest pains, severe headaches, difficulty breathing, skin rash or severe itching, uncontrolled body movements or seizures, blurred vision, confusion or hallucinations. Phentermine may also have a number of potentially minimal side effects including nervousness, irritability, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth and skin rashes.

Phentermine can be a successful adjunct to help accelerate the weight loss process for qualifying patients. If you do not like weight loss injections, phentermine or similar oral medications for weight loss may be a great alternative option.

Phentermine is generally recommended for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, indicating obesity, or for adults with a BMI of 27 or more and other factors that raise the risk of health problems, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Phentermine should not be taken with other amphetamines, alcohol or medications used for ADHD.

At The Gajer Practice Phentermine 37.5mg is sold at $15 per week. Alternatively Phentermine can be sent to a pharmacy where insurance may be used to cover the cost. Note: patients must be enrolled in The Gajer Weight Loss Program in order to be prescribed this medication.
