Dear readers,
You have some big goals for your life. You want to live a life that you are proud of and show up in your work and relationships in a way that is meaningful to you. But sometimes, it’s hard to do the things you need to do in the moment to move closer to these goals. Unfortunately, this is one of the features of being human. This challenge of consistency often shows up strongly when people want to make a personal change, such as losing weight. You know where you want to go, and sometimes you know the steps to get there, but doing these consistently is not always easy.
Today, I would like to offer an exercise. Get out your notebooks and set a timer for 10 minutes. Write about why you want to reach a goal, such as a healthy, happy weight.
Answer the following questions: If your goal is not about weight loss, adapt the questions to the goal you have in mind.
- Why do I want to lose weight?
- What would be different about my day-to-day life if I was at my healthy, happy weight?
- How would I feel at my healthy, happy weight?
- What would I do that I currently can’t or choose not to do if I was at my healthy, happy weight?
- What else could I accomplish and/or give to others if I was at my healthy/happy weight?
These answers can be just for you, or you may choose to share them with a loved one or your health counselor, or Dr. Gajer. Either way, when the going gets tough (which it will at times), look back at your answers to fill up your motivation tank to keep going.
Change is hard, but staying the same is harder. I’m so proud of everyone out there doing the hard work to be healthy inside and out. As always, we are here to support you on your path.
